In three weeks, I will return to the slopes with my wife, children and grandchildren. I started skiing while in college, and have never missed a season since that time in my life. When I spent the third year of my Orthopedic Residency at the Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, I became an avid skier, cyclist and fly fisherman and continue pursuing all three to the present.

While the years and injuries have left some scars, with the advent of Regenerative Medicine (Cellular Orthopedics and Orthobiologics), I am able to keep on going and overcome the symptoms and limitations imposed by Osteoarthritis. There will be no joint replacement for me as long as there are stem cells, PRP and the ever-expanding treatment offerings in Orthobiologics.

Four years ago, I underwent a biologic intervention into both knees and both hips. The knee intervention with a proprietary Platelet Rich Plasma filtered concentrate was repeated two years ago. Last week, it was a repeat PRP concentrate with an advanced technology. While the concentration of stem cells in your bone marrow diminishes with age, growth factors, platelets and precursor cells both in your bone marrow and circulating blood, do not diminish with age. We are still learning about adipose tissue and the stem cell numbers and benefits from that resource around your midsection as we evaluate the outcome of the first FDA-approved Personalized Stem Cell Trial in which I was a co-investigator.

While I am anticipating skiing, it is not too early for the reader to plan ahead for golfing, cycling, hiking, jogging, swimming or whatever activity you want to continue to enjoy. Recently, I used a Proprietary PRP concentrate to treat the shoulder of a professional golfer. Six weeks ago, I used a similar formula to treat both knees of a serious skier and cyclist. Another example is a dedicated body builder who had injured his shoulder and wanted to return to his favorite past time. While the ski season is now, you may visualize your favorite activity and plan ahead to be ready for your upcoming seasons.
